The 2021 winner of the William Taylor Scholarship in Radiocommunications is Peter Shmerko, a third year Electrical Engineering Student (with an Aerospace Engineering Minor) at the University of Calgary. Peter has participated in robotics and technical competitions and became interested in flying drones and radio-controlled model aircraft. He has an amateur radio licence (call-sign VE6 FPV). Peter’s current interests include satellite communication, autonomous drones, and IoT technologies. He is currently the Communications Team Lead in the Calgary To Space Club, and is helping manage, research, and manufacture radio communication solutions for the 3U CubeSat under development.
